Before we lay down any chords, there are always words. Built around deep, often suppressed emotions, our Berlin-based alternative rock project draws from five different cultural perspectives to tell each story as honestly and closely as possible.

Moving from the Czech Republic to Berlin in pursuit of a music career, Jirka initially found himself drawn into the world of electronic music. Alone behind a laptop, he learned how to shape sound with precision — but something essential was missing. Performing without the push and pull of a live band, slowly created a distance between the music and the emotions it was meant to carry. As the first ideas for a debut EP began to take shape, that distance became impossible to ignore. The songs Jirka was writing demanded vulnerability, space, and human imperfection. These words needed something more fragile, more real. That realization marked the beginning of The Distortion. Formed in Berlin by musicians coming from different parts of the world, Each member brings traces of their own cultural background into the band, but what binds them together is a common sensitivity toward the emotional weight of a song — and the willingness to let arrangements bend, slow down, or fall apart in service of the story being told. While The Distortion sounds like a rock band live — driven by real instruments, physical energy, and human interaction — their recorded work is carefully produced to exist in the present. Modern production techniques are used not to polish away imperfections, but to frame them, preserving the raw edge of a live performance while allowing the songs to breathe in a contemporary sonic space. the aftermath of a breakup, the ache of unreturned love, the fight with inner demons, the quiet grief of losing a friend. Rather than offering resolution, the music invites listeners to sit with these feelings — to pause, listen, and feel without distraction. Currently, The Distortion is performing across clubs and concert venues in Berlin, testing the intimacy of their songs in close, shared spaces. At the same time, they are preparing for the release of their debut EP, scheduled for early 2026, and an accompanying tour.
