Flintlock is a Toronto-based jazz quintet blending bebop, soul, alt-pop and more. Featuring vocalist Jordana Talsky, Mark Hundevad (drums/vibes), Scott Metcalfe (piano), James Thomson (bass), Shawn Nykwist (sax), plus guests.

Flintlock is a Toronto jazz band igniting the city’s music scene with a bold blend of refined improvisation and a raw creative edge. Drawing on everything from bebop to free-jazz inspirations, their repertoire spans an array of jazz sub-genres, evoking the spirit of Pharoah Sanders, McCoy Tyner, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and other boundary-shaping innovators. Rooted in tradition yet unafraid to push forward, Flintlock delivers performances charged with spontaneity, interplay, and soulful intensity. Their sound fuses vintage warmth with contemporary spark and raw edge, captivating both seasoned jazz listeners and new audiences—an explosive force shaping Toronto’s vibrant jazz landscape. Flintlock is active across Toronto’s live-music scene, with residencies at a Junction house series and regular performances at The Rex, Jazz Bistro, The Emmet Ray, Drom Taberna, and other local mainstays. With a lineup of accomplished musicians, Flintlock brings together decades of experience across Canada’s jazz, indie, experimental, and roots scenes. The band features award-recognized vocalist and vocal looper Jordana Talsky, celebrated for her innovative all-vocal arrangements and international touring; master pianist Scott Metcalfe, one of Toronto’s most versatile accompanists and arrangers; veteran bassist James Thomson, whose three decades of performance span everything from bluegrass to free jazz; acclaimed saxophonist Shawn Nykwist, a recording artist and collaborator with top Canadian jazz figures; and drummer–vibraphonist Mark Hundevad, a prolific composer, producer, and longtime force in Canada’s creative music community. Together, they channel a rare blend of expertise, musical history, and improvisational daring.
